Primary colors - Any three colors that can be mixed in proportions to make any other color. Each therefore covers approximately a third of the visible spectrum. In painting, the primaries are considered to be red, yellow and blue. In combining light (and therefore the dyes used to make film), the primaries are red, blue and green. In printing they are cyan, magenta and yellow.
